The National Student Steel Bridge Competition is hosted by the American Institute of Steel Construction, where they challenge students to think critically about both structural design and project management skills, while offering them a chance to apply classroom knowledge to a project with a tangible result. The 2026 Competition rules can be found here with general competition information here.

At the 2025 Metropolitan Regional Student Steel Bridge Competition, the NYU Steel Bridge team won 1st place overall, 1st place for construction economy, 2nd place in structural efficiency and cost estimation, and 3rd place in stiffness. NYU Steel Bridge has a proud record on the national stage as well. At the 2018 National Competition, the team placed in the Top 10 in three of five total categories: lightness, stiffness, and structural efficiency. Then, in 2021, the team placed in 6th place, and 29th place in 2024.

The 2026 Metropolitan Section Competition will be on April 18, held at the College of New Jersey (Ewing, NJ).
