Each participant born in China and then immigrated to America remember having ideas of what life in America would be like through stories told by people who immigrated before them, or on television. Person C states there was an extensive network of people in America to help her settle into her new life and stay connected to her family in China.
None of the participants born in China have plans to return to China. Instead, they perceive the best family and career prospects lie in America. By permanently settling in New York City with their extensive kinship networks, future generations are more likely to follow in their footsteps as well.
