The NYART Communications and Outreach Committee is pleased to introduce the first in a series of informal discussion groups led by ART membership. Each discussion session will take on a topic of concern to the archival community. Our mission is to create a space where archivists can engage in focused conversation around a specific problem derived from archival work and to explore the strategies archivists employ in their everyday practice.

The size of each group will be small, to encourage discussion among
all attendees. Unless noted otherwise, each session will be designed for archivists with similar levels of experience. Participants will come away from discussions with fresh approaches to practical challenges.

*DISCUSSION GROUP #1:*

*BRING YOUR PROCESSING CHALLENGE!*

Ever wonder how other archivists would handle the puzzling ephemera
that you’ve encountered in processing collections? Not sure what to do with that decaying scrapbook, or with other mixed media lurking in your collection? Confronting a particularly unruly record group?

Here’s your chance to engage actively with other professionals over
the parts of your collections that challenge you the most. Come join other archivists in a friendly, informal, yet focused conversation about interesting processing conundrums you’re facing in your collections.

Bring your own processing challenge to the table, listen to others’,
explore the many creative approaches we take when we process. In this discussion we will be free to analyze our own successes and missteps, without criticism or judgment. We may compare approaches, ask questions, offer suggestions, wonder aloud. We guarantee that you will leave the session armed with at least one new tip, idea, or approach. Above all: Come ready to talk!

**** This session is intended for experienced archivists who have
processed at least one collection. Attendance is limited to 20 participants. Advanced registration is required. Qualified attendees will be admitted on a first-come first-served basis and will be notified prior to the date of the session.****
