StoryCorps is an independent nonprofit project whose mission is to provide Americans of all backgrounds and beliefs with the opportunity to record, share, and preserve the stories of our lives. Our interns are intelligent, curious, motivated, and resourceful individuals devoted to inspiring and assisting everyday Americans in recording their stories in sound. Internships are available in both the Program and the Operations side of our Peabody Award-winning nonprofit organization.
StoryCorps offers two sessions of intern opportunities: Winter/Spring from January to June and Summer/Fall from June to December. The upcoming internship session will run from June 1, 2010–December 23, 2010.
Summer or Fall only applications will be reviewed on a case by case basis but preference will be given to candidates able to commit to the full session.
Unless otherwise noted, StoryCorps interns work in the morning (9:30 am–1:30 pm) or in the afternoons (1:30–5:30 pm) Monday through Friday for a total of 20 hours per week. StoryCorps provides a weekly stipend of $55 to help cover lunch and transportation expenses. Our interns take part in a fast-paced, supportive, and creative work environment at our offices in Brooklyn, New York.

The Lipper Internship is an outstanding opportunity for college students in a variety of fields and from a variety of backgrounds. Interns in the program participate in a ten-day training course in New York City conducted by Museum staff and scholars. Following training, Interns work throughout the semester with middle and high school students in their university communities. Each Intern conducts classroom visits to teach the chronology of the Holocaust, leads the classes through tours of the Museum, and then returns to the classes for post-visit sessions to reinforce and expand upon what the students have learned. This is a paid, semester-long internship with the opportunity for students to remain connected even after the semester has ended.
The application deadline for the Fall 2010 semester of the Lipper Internship Program is April 1, 2010. Interested students may contact me directly at (646) 437-4273 for more information, or visit our website at http://www.mjhnyc.org/documents/LipperApplication.pdf to download an application.
