Archives and Public History Program First Friday Brown Bag Lunch Discussion: Dec. 3

The NYU Archives and Public History Program first Friday brown bag lunch series presents:

– Oral History in New York: Planning, Implementation and Use –

Friday December 3, 12:00-2:00pm
King Juan Carlos Center (53 Washington Square South), Room 607
The Archives and Public History brown bag lunch series continues on Friday, December 3rd for a panel discussion featuring oral historians from the New York area. Speakers will discuss their recent and ongoing projects as well as the diverse uses of oral history in exhibits, research projects and education.

Speakers include:
  • Amy Starecheski, Columbia Oral History Research Office, recently worked on the Telling Lives Project in Chinatown and currently working with squatters
  • Sady Sullivan, Director of Oral History at the Brooklyn Historical Society
  • Nina Talbot, artist and oral historian, recently curated the exhibit “Painting Brooklyn Stories of Immigration and Survival” at the Brooklyn Historical Society

Archives Week, October 10-16, 2010

The Archivists Round Table of Metropolitan New York, Inc., along with hundreds of organizations in the archives community across New York State, will celebrate New York Archives Week, October 10-16, 2010, with special commemorative activities across all five New York City boroughs. New York Archives Week is an annual celebration aimed at informing the general public of the diverse array of archival materials available in the Metropolitan New York City region.

Among the many activities free and open to the public will be open houses, exhibitions, lectures, workshops and behind-the-scenes tours of archives throughout the city. These special events are designed to celebrate the importance of historical records and to familiarize interested organizations and the public with a wealth of fascinating archival materials illuminating three centuries of New York City history and culture.

A complete list of Archives Week events can be found below. Please note that pre-registration for some events is required.
