Erin Bernard Talk

The Archives and Public History Program hosted Erin Bernard, founder of the Philadelphia Public History Truck, for a talk on April 17, 2017.

The Philadelphia Public History Truck (PPHT) is a mobile museum devoted to telling the story of Philadelphia considering all of its parts from library records to oral histories, from old crumbling sidewalks to refurbished loft apartments, from death records to new babies on the block.  The PPHT community curatorial experience involves the community in gathering, planning, and designing each exhibit, making it possible to connect all people to the process of museums.  PPHT’s current curatorial focus is on neighborhood exhibits with the intention to increase local civic engagement and connect Philadelphia communities.

Steinhauer Named Director of Lepage Center

Jason Steinhauer

We congratulate Jason Steinhauer (MA in Public History, 2007), who has been appointed the inaugural Director of the Lepage Center for History in the Public Interest at Villanova University. The Lepage Center will bring historical scholarship and perspective to bear on contemporary global affairs and will serve as a leading voice for greater historical consciousness among citizens, elected officials and industry leaders. Through academic programs, research, publications and events, the Lepage Center will engage the public, policymakers, scholars, teachers and students from history and other fields. Proposed initiatives include summer institutes for teachers, briefings for government officials, events for the public and conferences for scholars. The Center will also seek to utilize digital tools and new media to engage people in history in ways that matter to their lives.
