Professor Peter Wosh, director of NYU’s Archives and Public History program, received the Society of American Archivists’ (SAA) 2013 Council Exemplary Service Award. This award recognizes his contribution to the Society as the SAA Publications Editor from February 2007 to February 2013. Professor Wosh received the award on August 15, 2013 at the SAA and Council of State Archivists Joint Annual Meeting in New Orleans.
Wosh’s many accomplishments during his tenure as the SAA Publications Editor highlight why he deserves this award. The Society of American Archivists published twenty books during the six years Professor Wosh served as SAA Publications Editor. Wosh also enabled the SAA to launch the new series Trends in Archives Practice following its research and development phase. Professor Wosh also worked with Brigham Young University to publish The Interactive Archivist and with the Bentley Historical Library at the University of Michigan to publish Campus Case Studies series.
As the Society of American Archivists’ news release announced, the Council stated that Peter Wosh “served as an enthusiastic ambassador for the SAA publishing program at regional and national conferences.” Wosh’s own publications, including writing Waldo Gifford Leland and the Origins of the American Archival Profession and editing Public Relations and Marketing for Archives, further attest to his contributions to both the Society of American Archivists and the larger archival profession.
