Members of the Archivists Round Table of Metropolitan New York (ART) are especially invited to
attend a special follow-up meeting for ART’s K-12 Archival Education Institute (AEI) program,
held in partnership with the National Archives at New York City and Association of Teachers of
Social Studies/United Federation of Teachers (ATSS/UFT).
The meeting is scheduled for Saturday, January 29, 2011, from 10am-Noon at the National Archives at New York City.
This FREE event will provide an overview of ART’s first K-12 Archival Education Institute with some of the facilitators, educators, and archivists that participated. The event will also provide a forum to discuss planning for the next K-12 AEI, tentatively to be held in September 2011.
The inaugural K-12 AEI was held on December 4, 2010, and paired professional archivists with Metropolitan New York educators to demonstrate how archival documents can be incorporated in class curriculum to achieve state mandated learning standards. The program provided educators with local archival materials and the tools to integrate these materials into their classrooms. The institute focused on developing lesson plans related to civil and human rights curricula.
Anyone who is interested in participating in the next K-12 AEI or would like to learn more are welcome to attend this meeting.
Please RSVP to outreach@nycarchivists.org by Monday, January 24th, 2011.
Attendees who do not RSVP cannot be ensured entry to the National Archives. Thank-you.
