The Abraham Lincoln Brigade Archives (ALBA) is a non-profit educational organization dedicated to promoting public awareness, research, and discussion about the Spanish Civil War (1936-39) and the American volunteers who risked their lives to fight fascism in Spain. Using its continually expanding archival collections at NYU in exhibitions, publications, performances, and educational programs, ALBA preserves the legacy of progressive activism and commitment of the Abraham Lincoln Brigade as an inspiration for present and future generations.
This position is divided into two areas of responsibility: office administration, research and content development for website. In the area of administration, the position requires skills related to managing the office of a non-profit organization. This staff member assists ALBA’s executive director in running the day to day office.
Required: Strong communication skills, especially writing and editing; online research skills; document formatting, Excel. Some experience with WordPress and Adobe Illustrator preferred. Desirable: Knowledge of US and Spanish History, publicity experience, and Spanish language competency (oral and written).
Responsibilities include:
Administration:
Answering phones and email/mail inquiries at the office related to ALBA’s mission
Assisting in mailings
Assisting in maintaining the organizations donor list
Writing thank you notes to funders and individual donors
Updating, maintaining and adding to mailing lists/email lists
Working with ED in maintaining a strong PR and internet presence, including assisting in writing a monthly newsletter and developing content for the ALBA website/facebook
Assisting in ALBA’s public programs, including such activities as preparing materials, scheduling participants and vendors, and arranging PR for the events
Formatting Documents and ALBA PR material
Assisting in updating the ALBA web site
Research Assistance in the following areas:
Grants and Fundraising
Historical Research
Locating and securing archival material through research and outreach
