Project Overview
The purpose of our project was to create more immersive experiences in museums. We hoped to re-invigorate existing mediums and make visitors feel more connected, invited, and excited. Lastly, we wanted to make sure that the experiences that we create are accessible to everyone.
Our team developed templates, accessible online, for multiple perspectives on museum objects. With these multiple perspectives, we created a well-rounded experience full of perspectives from not only historians and experts, but also groups that are directly impacted or are attached to museum objects. Additionally, we added an AR extension where the multiple perspectives will be displayed, utilizing SparkAR.
Our current template is hosting multiple perspectives for Bainbridge Island Historical Museum. In our Figma mockup, we include multiple perspectives from the Sierra Forest Legacy, the Bainbridge Island Japanese American Community, and the Squamish Tribe. In the display, we have included a transcript of the quote as well as an audio recording reading the quote. The current audio was recorded by Melissa, but ideally, we would like the audio to be recorded by those from whom the quote comes from. Additionally, we have postcards with quotes and images on them that can be included in the museum spaces.
Goals
Our goals for this project were to help visitors get a more rounded understanding of an exhibition by allowing them to hear what other people think of the exhibit (especially marginalized voices), help museums implement multiple perspectives for different exhibits, and create a sustainable solution that can be used by multiple museums.
