The Project
Project Description
This is a 5 minute clip from a longer short film called the Relaxed Wife. I has a variety of creative captions the integrate color, shape, and icons to engage the viewer better.
Documentation
The project is a creative captioning video of old style film movie that was called the relaxed wife. The captions separate the speakers by different legible bright colors, the narrators speaks in quotations and the man reading the book aloud is in italics. There are music notes for music descriptions, one music not for sounds, and brackets around certain sound descriptions.

What is the theme of the work?
The theme of this is bright and playful with a little bit of tension built between the family throughout the scenes. The theme discovers if the captions for this video can make it more immersive and comprehensible to the viewer, its main goal is to be engaging for the viewer.
How is that theme particularly expressed through the modality of the week?
The theme is conveyed through the vibrant and dynamic captions, which guide the viewer’s understanding of the dialogue and soundscape. The colorful separation of speakers and the unique notation for sound effects create an interactive and engaging experience, enhancing immersion.
Which elements of the work are beautifully/wonderfully/perfectly expressed through the modality?
The clear and distinct separation of characters’ speech and sound effects is beautifully captured through the use of colors, italics, and music notes. These visual cues make it easy for the viewer to follow the action and understand the audio components even without sound.
Which elements are lost or inexpressible through the modality of the week?
Some subtleties of tone, such as sarcasm or emotion, might be difficult to fully capture in text, even with color coding. Additionally, the nuances of sound, such as background ambiance or slight shifts in music, are less impactful when described in words or symbols rather than heard.
