Final Project Chloe Rodriguez

Project Description: What format is it? Is it interactive? Does it have sound? Video? Describe how a person would conduct this survey.

My survey operates as a visual aide that allows interviewees to visualize themselves within the questions. It is a basic slideshow; there exists a version with audio descriptions as well, though after considering the purpose of the survey, I am not certain if it is entirely helpful so I did not share it. A person would conduct the survey by going through the slides and letting the animations play throughout during the survey questions.

Documentation: If it’s interactive, make a video (screen recording is fine, if it’s digital) of your survey being interacted with. Include images with alt-text and captions.

Reflection Questions: Why did you choose this modality?  Which elements of the original did you keep, if any? Why? Which elements of the original survey did you change? How did you change them? Why?

I think I really struggled to envision the survey, with images and icons, as a helpful tool for both the interviewers and interviewees. I chose this approach because it is similar to job onboarding training videos which are meant to be very approachable and friendly while also accomplishing the goal of helping individuals. I am not certain that I kept any elements of the original aside from minor instances of language in the survey. This is because the original survey was difficult for me to visualize. One big change was not incorporating the icons (though I am not sure if that was even allowed for the assignment). I found that the icons were not helpful to me in my approach and I couldn’t figure out how to incorporate them so I simply neglected them. Additionally, I turned the static images into dynamic images/illustrations. I like to think I did this because it makes it easier for users to visualize themselves in the moving images however, this change mostly came about through feedback which I am very glad to have received.

Post-evaluation reflection: Did you get the information you wanted? Do you feel that certain elements of your redesigned survey worked for you in eliciting information? Do you think that certain elements worked against you in discovering information? Is there anything you would change or add to your survey for a next iteration of it, based on feedback from HeartShare?

I feel like the evaluation at HeartShare relied very heavily upon the individual as an interviewer, which I am not though I am aware I could’ve tried a bit harder. I am not sure that my redesigned survey works for eliciting information but rather works to inspire information, mainly the animations. I think as a survey perhaps including the questions directly onto the animations worked against me since users could read the questions and get confused. I’m not sure, but I think developing the survey into some sort of interactive survey or making it into some sort of generative application would be ideal in a perfect world. Those changes are out of my comfort zone though.
