DIY-AT: Cardboard Construction

In this assignment you will learn cardboard construction techniques. First you will watch videos from the Adaptive Design association to learn these fundamentals and then apply them in building something. Submit your documentation and reflection to Brightspace.

Jewelry chain holder made from cardboard that sits vertically on a desk and has a triangular base. Sustain Chain Holder
The device is a frame with 2 hooks that can hold up to 5 chains/trinkets/bracelets. The materials used to build this device included: Elmer’s glue, hot glue gun, box cutter, scissors, packaging tape and a hook, all assembled on cardboard.

This is a book/reading device hands-free holder. It is designed to accommodate books of most sizes, tablets, e-readers, magazines, and some newspapers. It is designed at an angle that allows most people to use it without neck strain.

The QuadKeep Organizer is a multipurpose utility holder designed to store and organize small daily items like pens, toothbrushes, or other tools. It features four compartments that can be used separately for different categories of items, helping keep a desk, bathroom, or workspace tidy and efficient.

Chair Armrests
 The Cardboard Chair Armrests is supported by two cardboard side panels, and is both reinforced and attached to the chair with duct tape. Each armrest is a rectangular, double ply card board piece while the backrest is a single piece folded on itself twice to create a reinforced triple-ply effect. It is attached to a wooden chair from IKEA.

This is a mini sofa, size is about 3.5 in * 2.5 in * 2.5 in. It is build with 4 cardboard boxes, one for the sofa back, one for the seat, and two for the armrests. It is all covered with blue draft tapes. I wanted to mimic the vibe of an old sofa.
A rectangular water dispenser made of cardboard, colored blue, and decorated with brown paper with trees on it. It has a water bottle hidden inside with an accessible lid. The top part is decorated with patterned tape (flowers and orange tape). Towards the bottom, there is a clear straw connected to the water bottle which is where the water goes through to get to the container under it. The base of the dispenser has a glass jar to collect water from the straw. The jar is on a cardboard platform within the dispenser. The color scheme is blue and earthy tones.
Pine Water Dispenser
A cardboard water dispenser that has a place fora water bottle, a straw that is connected to the water bottle, and a container to pour the water.Once you slightly open the water bottle cap, the water goes from the bottle, through the clear straw, to the container. You can open the cardboard lid that is covering the water bottle so that you can take it out and refill it as needed.

This is a cat toy made of cardboard in the shape of a mouse. It is covered by soft yarn, with one end stretching out and having a loop at the end where users can put their hands in.

The Briarcliff BirdhouseThe birdhouse is designed for smaller birds like Sparrows or Finches to build a nest inside, then lay eggs. The birdhouse serves as shelter and a safe place to keep the eggs and baby birds safe until they can take flight on their own.

The device is a simple, interactive toy that uses two straws to control and animate drawings on a box. By manipulating the straws, users can move the images, creating a dynamic effect. This mechanical movement allows for an engaging visual interaction.
