Meet Laura Morrison

What’s your official job title?
Associate Director of Communications, NYU Silver School of Social Work

Years/Months at NYU:
5 years, 4 months

What’s your hometown?
I was born in Manhattan, but I spent most of my childhood in Ossining, NY.

What kind of projects do you work on?
Along with Strategic Director of Communications Chris Ferrara and Graphic Design Lead (and AMC Communications Committee member) Kate Hogan, I work on communications that promote the school and inform, engage, and inspire our stakeholders. What that means for me is creating a steady stream of content for the School’s social media channels; developing social media ads for our MSW, DSW, and continuing education programs; writing news stories, profiles and other copy for the website; contributing to our admissions email campaigns; pitching in on internal communications; and generally cheerleading for all the great work that is being done by our students, faculty, staff, and alumni.

Why NYU?
I love the energy, passion for social impact, and sense of community I have found at the Silver School and University as a whole.

What is your go-to app on your phone right now?
Citbike App. I’m in the Bike Angels program, which gives riders points toward free membership and other rewards for moving bikes from stations that are too full and bringing them to stations that don’t have enough. The app tells you where the needs are and how many points you’ll get for making the move. I quit the gym and now get my exercise moving bikes and racking up points.

Is there an NYU benefit or perk that you use or think everyone should know about?
Eligibility for membership in the NYU Federal Credit Union. In addition to offering better rates on loans and lower fees than banks do, it has all kinds of other benefits, like incentives for saving, down payment assistance for first-time homebuyers, currency exchange, and a huge discount on Citibike membership. Plus it’s collectively owned by and accountable to its members, not corporate shareholders!
