Meet Kathy Wadolowski
What is your name?
Kathy Wadolowski
What’s your job title?
Assistant Director of Communications, NYU Stern Undergraduate College
Years/Months at NYU:
Just passed my two-year anniversary on February 22!
What’s your hometown?
Old Bridge, New Jersey
What kind of projects do you work on?
Communication and marketing strategies for a variety of Stern undergraduate initiatives, including: specific academic programs and their student leadership/event planning; Pre-Orientation and Re-Orientation content modules to prepare students for each new academic year; Stern’s Signature Experience Series events.
What does a normal day look like for you?
It starts and ends with coffee. 😉
What made you choose NYU or what contributes to NYU being special to you??
I grew up in New Jersey and my parents are both New Yorkers, so after about ten years in the midwest I was itching to get back to the east coast. NYU emerged as a top target almost immediately, because it has such an enormous reach across industries and throughout the city (and honestly the world).
Any advice for new administrators?
Ask questions!!! I was totally new to NYU when I started, and sometimes worried that asking too many questions would make me feel like the odd person out. But in reality, it’s a great way to both get information and get to know people, and surprisingly it can also prompt colleagues to examine or rethink the “way we do things.” It’s a great gateway to discussion, and no one ever hesitates to answer when you ask. I also think this advice applies to seasoned administrators as well—no matter how long we’ve been here, we can always learn, change, and improve! So keep questioning.
What is your fondest memory in your time here?
In my first role at NYU Stern, I was mainly responsible for strategic communications and projects involving undergraduate seniors. My first Baccalaureate ceremony was so special, because I saw much of my work come to life in a landmark moment for students. The violet and white confetti falling at the end of the ceremony is cemented in my memory.
Do you have a hidden talent, skill or side gig you’d like us to spotlight?
I’m a strangely good hula-hooper.
What is your favorite book and why?
Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier. Reading is one of my favorite hobbies and my genre-of-choice definitely changes, but I always come back to this one. I love gothic literature, atmospheric settings, and mysterious characters. Add in some romance, and need I say more?
Books or TV?
I LOVE THEM BOTH. I often choose books for new adventures, and return to my favorite TV shows over and over for comfort.
Coffee or tea?
Coffee every time. Multiple times.
Horror or comedy?
Comedy!! Even 2-minute commercials for horror movies can be too much for me.
What’s your favorite season?
I love the vibes of fall but the weather of winter. Give me a cold and snowy day, any day.
Favorite travel destination?
Spain <3
