Josh McConchie
What’s your job title?
Lighting Supervisor TSOA Drama
Years/Months at NYU:
9.5 years
What’s your hometown?
Hastings-on-Hudson, NY
What kind of projects do you work on?
I work on and oversee the lighting installations of Studio and Tisch Drama Stage Productions for the Department of Drama at Tisch School of the Arts.
What does a normal day look like for you?
I live north of the city in Rockland County. I commute on Metro North from Tarrytown to Grand Central. It’s a beautiful train ride! When I get to work I spend an hour or so sifting through emails, before I head out and give lighting support to the various theater and studio spaces our students encompass. I oversee our Electrics Shop; it has an amazing group of work study students that I manage and train in proper practice and installation of theatrical lighting systems.
Name your favorite spot on campus.
My favorite spot on campus is Washington Square Park. When I eat lunch in the park, I sit at the same bench, close to the Jazz musicians. I’ve always found that the mixture of nature and the sounds of the city create an interesting dichotomy.
Do you have a hidden talent?
Everyone has their bad days, but I’m a pretty good pool player.
If you were a superhero, who would you be and why?
Flash Gordon. He’s the ruler of the Universe!

Coke.

Coffee.
Favorite Travel Destination?
Montana.
