Meet Henry Pruitt
What’s your official job title?
Project Director, Advance is my official title, but the title of “Enterprise Architect” is more representative of my current role. I also serve as an Adjunct Instructor at SPS, teaching Project Management.
Years/Months at NYU:
6 years
What’s your hometown?
Teaneck/Englewood, NJ
What kind of projects do you work on?
I get to work on a variety of different projects, which makes my job really interesting. A large part of my role is to help teams come up with technical solutions to their business problems. I also facilitate the Architecture Review Board and am helping to improve how we manage our IT application portfolio. One of the tools we are building is a business capability model which can be used to represent how the university functions, so we can better understand the technology related to our activities and processes.
What’s your role in the AMC?
I am a Representative for NYUIT, and often work with the Professional Development Committee. I also worked with the Emerging Professionals committee as they were getting things off the ground. I have found being part of the AMC to be both personally and professionally rewarding.
Why NYU?
After 25 years of working in Corporate America, and 13 years serving my community on my local school board, I was really looking for a job where I could apply my IT and leadership skills to improving education. NYU is the perfect place for me since there are plenty of interesting roles where you can have a positive impact on producing a great product – educating our students!
Any advice for new administrators?
Take the time to meet people and understand how things work. Relationships are very important, and understanding other perspectives can help achieve the best results.
What does a normal day look like for you?
A never-ending mix of emails, conference calls, and searching to find time to get work done!
Is there an NYU benefit or perk that you use or think everyone should know about?
One of the great things about working for an educational institution is that there are so many opportunities to learn and grow. I have taken some courses using Tuition Remission, taken classes on iLearn, obtained technical certifications, graduated from the Management Fellows program, and hope to pursue an EdD or PhD while working here. NYU also has a Toastmasters chapter that I am active in, and there are many personal and professional development opportunities that we should take advantage of.
