Meet Timothy Lopez

What’s your official job title?
Human Resource Manager, University Human Resources

Years/months at NYU:
1.7 years

What’s your hometown?
NYC

What kind of projects do you work on?
I support several clients throughout the University on strategic planning, training, performance development, and human resource operations. Recent projects that I have contributed to include the new Employee Onboarding Center and the new PeopleSync time tracking system.

What’s your role in the AMC?
I am an active member of the AMC, and I try to participate in as many events as my schedule allows. I serve on the AMC Emerging Professionals committee and help plan and host their events throughout the year.

Is there an NYU benefit or perk that you use or think everyone should know about?
I am a fan of the discounts page on the NYU site. I often use that to purchase tickets for Broadway shows, sporting events, and movies.

What is your fondest memory of your time here?
My fondest memory thus far was when I attended the NYU Distinguished Administrator Award ceremony. It was a pleasure to see a group of outstanding administrators being recognized for making a difference inside and outside of the NYU community.

What is your go-to app on your phone right now?
My go-to app right now would have to be Yelp. I use it to find new restaurants throughout the city, and anybody who knows me understands that I do not mind traveling for tasty food!

Favorite travel destination?
My favorite travel destination is Japan. The people are warm and welcoming, the culture is rich, and the food is flavorful. At first, I was worried about the language gap since I do not speak Japanese; however, if you attempt a few words/phrases you will be greeted with enthusiasm from the locals. I was able to visit three cities while in Japan and would recommend all of them: Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto.

Any advice for new administrators?
My advice for new administrators would be to build a strong network right away. A network will provide you with support throughout your career, and it can help navigate the complexity that is NYU.
