Photo Diptych

Concept:
I wanted to convey the idea that nature and humans are connected. But I also wanted to convey the idea that humans are the cause of the pollution on the beaches, and waters. A lot are human- produced waste. These actions are impacting our environment in a very negative way.
Process:
First, I decided to take some time taking some pictures of the sunset and the park. However, originally my concept was how humans’ emotions change into a more positive aspect when they are out in nature, so I originally had a picture of a little girl running around around the park. But after the mid- critique, I changed my concept. I decided to use another picture I took of the trash outside a building. This led me to change my concept to how humans are damaging the environment. I think these two picture still go well together for this Diptych assignment because nature and humans depend on each other, if we do not change our habits, we can actually face a lot of consequences.

Then, the process got a lot easier since I knew what to edit and what message I was trying to convey. I selected the trash out of the picture and put it on the horizon. Then just duplicated some parts of it spread around the composition like sand water and etc. I used different blend modes for each of them. For the main part I just placed it, and softened the edges, for the others I used darken modes.
If I had more time, I would probably change the water and the sand to be a little bit darker to create a sense that is not a very positive thing to have trash on the beaches and to have a darker mood.
