Social Attitudes and Neurolinguistic Dynamics Lab

The Social Attitudes and Neurolinguistic Dynamics (SAND) Lab is a research lab at New York University Abu Dhabi established during the Academic Year 2022/23. SAND Lab’s overarching research missions are (i) to progress our understanding of attitudes towards social and economic inequality, and (ii) to explore basic socio-cognitive processes (e.g., categorization, stereotyping, perception) and their interactions with language (and bi-/multilingualism). In particular, we are interested in three questions, namely (a) how social-cognitive processes are shaped by language, (b) how these processes contribute to social inequalities based on gender and race, and (c) how attitudes towards social and economic inequalities form and change. These questions are addressed with a wide range of methodologies, including analyses of archival data, semantic network analyses, surveys, experimental designs, and EEG studies.
