Attendance and Tardiness
You are expected to attend all scheduled classes. Greater than two unexcused absences warrant a fail. Tardiness counts as 1/3rd of an unexcused absence. If you are unable to attend a class, notify me before that class. If you are ill and need to miss more than a week of classes, you must speak to the Health & Wellness Office in order to get an excused absence. I will not look at doctor’s notes, both for your health privacy reasons and because I cannot verify the authenticity or content of the notes.

Academic Integrity:
At NYU Abu Dhabi, a commitment to excellence, fairness, honesty, and respect within and outside the classroom is essential to maintaining the integrity of our community. By accepting membership in this community, students, faculty, and staff take responsibility for demonstrating these values in their own conduct and for recognizing and supporting these values in others. In turn, these values create a campus climate that encourages the free exchange of ideas, promotes scholarly excellence through active and creative thought, and allows community members to achieve and be recognized for achieving their highest potential.
All potential violations to this community academic integrity standard (including plagiarism) will be taken seriously and reviewed through NYUAD’s Academic Integrity Procedure.
Academic Accommodations:
Academic accommodations are available for students with disabilities. Please contact the Moses Center for Students with Disabilities (mosescsd@nyu.edu) for further information. Students who are requesting academic accommodations are advised to reach out to the Moses Center as early as possible in the semester for assistance. Further details at: www.nyu.edu/csd.
Mental Health Awareness:
As a University student, you may experience a range of issues that can interfere with your ability to perform academically or impact your daily functioning, such as: heightened stress; anxiety; difficulty concentrating; sleep disturbance; strained relationships; grief and loss; personal struggles. If you have any well-being or mental health concerns please visit the Counseling Center on the ground floor of the campus center from 9am-5pm Sunday – Thursday, or schedule an appointment to meet with a counselor by calling: 02-628-8100, or emailing: nyuad.healthcenter@nyu.edu. If you require mental health support outside of these hours call NYU’s Wellness Exchange hotline at 02-628-5555, which is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You can also utilize the Wellness Exchange mobile chat feature, details of which you can find on the student portal. If you need help connecting to these supports please contact me directly.
Writing Center Resources:
Located in the NYUAD Library, the Writing Center offers one-on-one consultations designed to aid and develop student projects at any stage of the process — from brainstorming to fine-tuning, from developing a motive and a thesis to integrating sources ethically. Writing consultants are experienced readers and writers who help students develop specific skills necessary for drafting and revising and facilitate critical and reflective thinking on a student’s own writing process, oral expression, or ELL-related aspects of student expression. The Center welcomes students from any field or discipline (including the Core Curriculum). Students can make appointments as walk-ins or via the Writing Center website: https://nyuad.mywconline.com/.
Plagiarism and Academic Fraud:
If you like something enough to use it in your thinking and writing, you must identify your source for that thing. This includes phrases, sentences, passages, images, charts, diagrams, YouTube clips or anything else you did not create yourself. But this also includes ideas that are not your own. Anything that does not come from your own thinking mind must be cited. The faculty instructing this course will not tolerate cheating or plagiarism. When academic dishonesty is suspected, it will be dealt with in adherence to the official guidelines of New York University Abu Dhabi.
