Lab 2
Mohammed, Pangna, Hasan
In this lab our goal was to create a coin purse from plastic bags. We began with cutting uncreased/smooth rectangular pieces of plastics from the plastic bags. We had to repeat this process few times as the thickness of the pieces was not to our liking the first few times. Then we bundled the pieces of plastic on top of each other while placing baking paper on either ends of the bundle, and began ironing the surface of the baking paper so the plastic layers fuses together. After we managed to fuse majority of the layers we placed the template provided to us on the fused product and drew an outline. This was a bit tedious as we used a thick marker to draw the outlines which meant that we lost some precision. After drawing the outline, we cut out the shape, folded it, and poked holes in the appropriate places. We then inserted the male and female buttons which took the longest time, as identifying and punching the said buttons took some time to get used to. We then folded the structure and tried to close the buttons, during which we realized that we had some alignment issues. After fixing those errors we were finally done with the final product. This experience was valuable to us since it introduced us to tools that we hadn’t been exposed to before.
Here are some pictures of the process:
