To start off, this plastic collection and beach cleaning experience is one I’ll be sure to explore again. From the welcoming from the hotel managers to the kind words from the guests, I realized the importance of activities like these. NYUAD is known for organizing nurdle hunts, so I was expecting to find an abundance of them, in order to incorporate them into our trash sculpture. However, this was not the case as the beach was surprisingly cleaner than we expected. That has to do with the hotel business being in charge of access to the beach, making me wonder how public beaches will be in comparison to Park Hyatt.
At first, the trash we found was recurring. It includes food packaging, plastic bottles, and cigarette butts. We later decided to walk past the hotel into the bushes, which was where all the plastics were discarded. We found flip-flops, plastic shovels, broken equipment, a faulty umbrella, and all types of drinks. In addition, we found much other trash in the forms of wood, marble, and rust metal that was very out of place, so we ended up cleaning it too.
Overall, I would love to repeat this experience on a public beach where I expect to find way more paradox trash. I believe these trips should be organized regularly as the accumulation of trash will be disastrous to our environment.

great! you found a lot of trash.
I invited a guest from an organization that does “under the sea” beach cleanups in the UAE. Sounds fun!
