Sustainable economic growth depends now largely on commercialization of innovative products and services. The new concept of IP (Intellectual Property) based nation is gaining ground because it is Intellectual Property and Innovation which enables technology creation and technology transfer. Many academic institutes are very good at research and produce hundreds of publications every year. However, due to the lack of awareness about potential commercialization, Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) and the lack of skills to develop the technology at higher Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs), the research carried out at many universities does not result in creating the desired public impact or achieving socio-economic benefits. Successful commercialization of the research outputs promote competition and creates profitable business opportunities that provide jobs, job training and increase business and individual income.
This seminar highlights the importance of the excellent research outputs carried out at academic institutes. It shows how we can successfully commercialize these research outputs. It discusses the provision of a platform where academic research, innovation and commercialization can sit together and can offer many opportunities of new businesses, jobs creation and socio-economic impact.
