Skating Professionally – Balance & Control
Before entering the Academic world of AI & Autonomous Robotics, Dr. Aliasghar Arab was a Professional Skater. Skating with aggressive inline rollerblades, is similar to doing parkour but on the wheels. As a professional skater during his high school years and the early part of his college time, Dr. Arab demonstrated exceptional skill and dedication. Competing in multiple national and international skating competitions, he showcased not only his athletic prowess but also his commitment to excellence and discipline—qualities that have evidently played a pivotal role in his scientific and professional achievements.
The similarity of Professional Skating and Research for me is that they are both more downed when they are at the Edge. The real challenge arise when you are at the edge, Control the Balance and stay at the edge as long as you can to maximize the reward. Safety always is the main challenge, despite Maximizing the reward, we always have to consider the safety risks and stay alert about any Mal-functions or failures. Mitigating the consequences of a fall or failure needs practice and preparedness. However, there is no guarantee to find the balance and control when you are the edge, similar to research. Not all the cutting edge researches conclude to outstanding results, but it doesn’t mean you we have to hesitate propelling the cutting edge work.
