#DHAD2017

DHAD ض was an international digital humanities conference held 10-12 April 2017 at New York University Abu Dhabi, in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates.  The conference examined the emergence of new forms of academic knowledge in the digital age.  DHAD was situated along a few main research axes:

  • the social, intercultural creation of knowledge in the global academy;
  • the evolving modes of both the textual and non-textual humanities in an era of computation;
  • the importance of a public digital humanities;
  • the promises and challenges of digital humanities research in Middle Eastern and Asian languages and contexts.

DHAD featured lectures by experts in the field and was interspersed with workshops designed to explore hands-on how the digital humanities have become an integral part of educational research institutions in the twenty-first century.  The axes listed above were chosen to pioneer new frontiers in research fields central to NYUAD’s mission as a global research institution within a regional knowledge society.

DHAD ض was organized by Robert JC Young, Dean of the Division of Arts and Humanities and David Joseph Wrisley, Visiting Associate Professor of Digital Humanities at New York University Abu Dhabi. The conference’s sponsors were the NYU Abu Dhabi Institute and the Division of the Arts and Humanities and was open to the general public of the United Arab Emirates and beyond.
